A Study On Types And Cultural Interpretation Of Residential Buildings In Harbin

Residential buildings have always been the most relevant building type to human life.The living needs of the Chinese Eastern Railway employe es in different position laid the style and distribution structure of residential buildings in Harbin since 1898 when the city became a core hub of the railway.At the same time,under the influence of the open door policy,the rapid rise of the city attra cted a large number of domestic and international population to move to Harbin to seek survival opportunities,which brought a diverse living cultures.Under multiple stimulations,modern Harbin residential buildings presented various types and rich inner culture interpretations.This dissertation aims to interpret the types of Harbin modern residential buildings and their cultural representations in three aspects.From the scale of the city level,this paper has compared the historical planning maps in various periods with the actual city construction to analyze the expansion and evolution of the residential areas during the urban development.Under the influence of advanced planning concepts,urban position,residential population and economic conditions,the residential areas in various districts have different characteristics in terms of land system,planning and layout,and types of residential buildings,which had affected the layout of residential areas in the city and characteristics of residential distribution.The variety of cultures that affected Harbin's residential buildings has created new blends and collisions during cultural exchanges.Under the subjective needs,including living conditions and cultural habits,and objective conditions consisti ng of natural environment,population,and economy,the types of modern residential buildings in Harbin are rich in variety and clear in positioning that made it meet the living requirements of various groups of people properly.The types of residential buildings are defined according to the combination of their planes.Analyzing various residential buildings whose construction has been impacted by different cultures by the space syntax.According to the result,the relationship of spatial organizations of the residential buildings can be estimated,and the spatial genotype of the residential culture will be summarized.Based on the spatial composition syntactic value,this paper interprets the characteristics of modern residential culture from the aspects o f living habits,privacy requirements and climatic conditions,and analyzes their residential �home shape�.From the perspective of cultural communication,three types of art styles of modern residential buildings in Harbin have been analyzed,which is,th e traditional transplantation of the cultural source,the new trend in the turning point of the times,and the regional style derived from cultural acculturation.Under the point of cultural exchange,the reason for the change of the subject and object liv ing value of traditional architecture has been analyzed.Taking historical literature and field investigation as research materials,this dissertation constructs a research framework for Harbin modern residential buildings using spatial syntax,and the theoretical support is cultural anthropology.The cultural value of Harbin modern residential buildings will be interpreted in three levels,which are residential planning;building types;and cultural interpretations.
