This study takes the landscape form of the east bank of West Lake in Hangzhou as an object, analyzes the process of the interaction between cities in the region and the West Lake in modern times, and discusses the elements, types, evolution process and characteristics of the landscape form of the east bank after 1895.The thesis first sorted out the history and evolution of ancient cities and lakes, and used this as a basis to study the landscape of the east bank of the West Lake in the three periods of the late Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, and the founding of the People's Republic of China. The succession of social economy, production, and lifestyle determines the scale and characteristics of landscape patterns. With the change of spatial scale, the main factors that affect the landscape form will also be transformed. The study takes the morphological elements as the basic perspective, classifies the research area according to the spatial scale, and through the interpretation of the formation and transformation of elements and types in different periods and at various scales, restores the morphological types of the east coast landscape in each period from a diachronic perspective Generating and transforming laws, summarizing the collage features, center changes and grid evolution of landscape patterns in different periods.Overall, the landscape form and evolution on the east bank of the West Lake fully reflect the inherent characteristics of the transformation of the relationship between city and lake in traditional Chinese cities. Before the Republic of China, the East Bank,as the only interface, had a clear "interface" and clear relations between the inside and outside of the city wall. With the demolition of the city walls, the relationship between cities and lakes has changed from continuity to tangency to intercommunication.West Lake and Hangzhou have experienced tortuous development after modern times. The current urban construction is gradually restoring the landscape form on the east bank and further promoting its public vitality. The lake and the city are developing from the physical and visual continuity to the integrated urban and lake level of thinking and culture.
