China's construction industry is developing rapidly, and the problem of unbalanced development between state-owned and private enterprises is gradually emerging. From measurement research and formation mechanism analysis aspects, this thesis selects 35 listed state-owned enterprises and 27 listed private enterprises in the construction industry during the observation period of 2014-2018 as samples to study the differences in competitiveness between state-owned enterprises and private enterprises in the construction industry. The purpose of this thesis is to help enterprises recognize their respective advantages and disadvantages and promote the healthy development of the overall construction industry. This thesis applies the "cause and effect" theoretical model to distinguish the competitive factors into "result" and "cause",and builds a research index system for the competitiveness of China's construction enterprises, including two result factors(professional barriers, profit level)and five cause factors(scale capability, financing capability, operational capability, human capability, and research and development capability). Then, this thesis uses factor analysis to conduct empirical analysis. From the static analysis of the results,it is found that, for the comprehensive score,state-owned enterprises(0.0482 points)are 2.42 times higher than private enterprises(-0.0340 points);for the development factor,state-owned enterprises(0.1659 points)are 1.89 times higher than private enterprises(-0.1833 points);for the technical factor, stateowned enterprises(0.1454 points)are 2.16 times higher than private enterprises(-0.1251 points);for the profit factor,state-owned enterprises(-0.3037 points)are 1.77 times lower than private enterprises(0.3938 points);for the scale factor,state-owned enterprises(0.3154 points)are 1.87 times higher than private enterprises(-0.3641 points);for the human resourse factors,state-owned enterprises(-0.1515 points)are 1.82 times lower than private enterprises(0.1852 points). From the dynamic analysis of the results,it was found that the gap between the comprehensive scores of the competitiveness of state-owned enterprises and private enterprises gradually increased from 0.0032 points to 0.2118 points. Therefore, the competitiveness of construction enterprises has formed a situation in which the state-owned enterprises are strong abut the private enterprises are weak, and the gap between the two is expected to continue to expand. In addition, from the perspective of the formation mechanism, the paper uses multivariate regression analysis to analyze the statistical correlation between various competitive factors forming the mechanism of corporate competitiveness quantitatively. The following conclusions are obtained:1.The competitive result factor of state-owned enterprises has insignificant relationship with human capacity;has an inverted U-shaped relationship with operating capacity(the influence coefficient is 1.478);has an inverted U-shaped relationship with financing capacity(the influence coefficient of 1.410);has a positive U-shaped relationship with scale capacity(the influence coefficient of-0.176);has a monotonous positive correlation with research and development capability(the influence coefficient of 0.170).2.The competition result factor of private enterprises has insignificant relationship with research and development capability;has a positive U-shaped relationship with scale capacity(the influence coefficient of-0.327);has an approximately positive correlation with human capacity(the influence coefficient of 0.248);has a monotonous positive correlation with operating capacity(the influence coefficient of 0.213);has a monotonous negative correlation with the financing capacity(the influence coefficient of-0.157).Based on the above results, this thesis raises some proposal developing competitiveness of construction companies: avoiding the diseconomy of scale through new scale development methods such as investment participation and business diversification;promoting deleveraging through debt-to-equity swaps and mixed ownership reform;reducing the risk of asset operation through strengthening the management of project contracts in advance and reducing;innovating the talent management model in terms of talent introduction and retention;accelerating the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in terms of assembly and BIM informatization construction.
