Urban Design Strategy Research On Historical City Waterfront From The Perspective Of Lineal Or Serial Cultural Heritages

With the development of the concept and connotation of urban historical and cultural heritage,the study and practice changes from protecting only the individual to the historical environment,such as Cultural Routes,Heritage Corridors,Linear or Serial Cultural Heritages,etc.These concepts have gradually become research hotspot in the field of Cultural heritage.On the other hand,since the Grand Canal of China successfully entered the World Cultural Heritage List,the historical protection of towns and regions along the the Grand Canal of China has become more and more eye-catching.In the post-application,it is significantly important to guide the construction of these areas.In this research background,Urban Design on Historical Urban Waterfront from the perspective of Linear or Serial Cultural Heritages provides a possibility to protect cultural heritage and continue the historical environment in a holistic,connected and dynamic consideration.This paper follows the logic of "provisioning research presupposition-combing relevant theories-seeking ideas to combine-constructing design strategies-verifying actual cases".This paper adopts the method of sub-type exploration,systematic analysis and multi-scale analysis to take Historical Urban Waterfront as the research object and choose Linear or Serial Cultural Heritages as the research perspective.This paper firstly describes the types,characteristics and construction problems of Historical Urban Waterfront,and analyzes the goals and elements of Urban Design on Historical Urban Waterfront.Secondly,This paper explores the combination of Linear or Serial Cultural Heritages and Urban Design from theoretical research and practical cases,and refines the guidance meaning of Linear or Serial Cultural Heritages to Urban Design.Then,This paper summarizes the principles of Historical Urban Waterfront from the perspective of Linear or Serial Cultural Heritages,and specifically discusses twelve urban design strategies.Finally,the Beijing City Sub-center Grand Canal Waterfront District was selected as a case for verification.The study considers that Historical Urban Waterfront is different from the general Urban Waterfront,and it is obviously to summarize four characteristics,which are cultural stratification,ecological sensitivity,functional extension and landscape specificity.The current construction has five major problems,and the urban design of Historical Urban Waterfront should correspondingly pay attention to the five objections,including continuation of historical context,overall ecological environment,appropriate function,landscape features,and construction of progress.The study clearly defined Urban design elements into five major systems,including ecology,function,landscape,and construction of progress.From the perspective of Linear or Serial Cultural Heritages,the cultural heritage presents the development trend of “from individual to whole,from station to dynamic,from repairation to governance,from protection to development”.Therefore,this paper proposes that the direction of contemporary Urban Design are the precedence of the cultural heritage,the harmonious development of the environment,and the promotion of public participation.Finally,this paper concludes that the Urban Design on Historical Urban Waterfront should take the "historical,hierarchical,and shared" as design principles from the perspective of Linear or Serial Cultural Heritages,and summarizes the twelve urban design strategies: the completely cognition of cultural imagery,to entirely shaping cultural pattern,the narrative expression of cultural places,the ecologically optimization urban structure,the cultivation of habitats and species,the functionally adaptation to cultural orientation,the mixed land use,to time-sharing guiding activities,the strengthening Waterfront perception,the perfection of landscape interpretation system,the flexibility of waterfront development,and to broadening of public participation.In general,this paper focuses on the specific area of Historical Urban Waterfront,attempts to research Linear or Serial Cultural Heritages as a perspective,and proposes the urban design principles and strategies of Historical Urban Waterfront from the perspective of Linear or Serial Cultural Heritages.The operational strategies guide construction in similar areas.
