With the acceleration of the global warming,the Arctic region that has economic importance and strategic value has drawn a great attention gradually.Therefore,it is of great significance to develop polar vessels suitable for the Arctic environment.As for the design of polar vessels,it is crucial to understand and master the mechanism and the law of ice resistance in the icebreaking process.The paper will mainly take numerical investigation of ship icebreaking process.In this paper,the interaction between ship and level ice is simulated.by using a nonlinear solver Ls-dyna.In the numerical model,the ship and level ice are represented by shell element and the fluid is represented by solid element.Then,the numerical model used to simulate the interaction between ship,water and level ice is established by defining the contact between ship and level ice and the coupling between structure and fluid.Finally,in order to ensure the credibility of the model,some work including validation of ice material model,mesh convergence and comparisons with the results of ice model tests have done.Furthermore,the paper investigates and analyzes various parameters of level ice affecting the icebreaking process and obtain the relations between these parameters and ice resistance.After that,the qualitative analysis of the results of parameter study is carried out based on the modified Morris method.Through the analysis,the influencing degree of every parameter on the ice resistance are clear.
