Curtain wall buildings face many challenges,such as higher air conditioning loads,high level temperature gradients in the depth direction and glass condensation problem.Even increase the loads of fan coils and floor-mounted air conditioning units can not solve the unevenly air distribution and glass condensation issues of the building envelop.A new glass curtain wall air conditioning unit(Terminal unit)is designed to solve this problem.The unit is designed for continuous layout and installation across the glass curtain walls to form sustainable upwards air curtains.An isolated air layer will be produced across the inner side of the glass walls.Below is the main purpose of this research:Introducing 2 types of floor-mounted isolated air conditioning unit,i.e.,air drawn through and air blow throw.The adjustable top guide plate will change the air flow angles.The research involves Fluent Numerical Simulation,Smoke Testing,Experiment and Testing and Theoretical Calculation.With Fluent Numerical Simulation to analyze indoor air flow: For the blow through air conditioner,vertical airflow will climb through the glass.It can meet the indoor air distribution requirement,however,the air curtain is incontinuous that will lead to glass condensation in the air curtain gaps.There're 3 types of air distribution forms for the air drawn through air conditioner: Air distribution towards the room side(Type 1),the temperature on the glass curtain wall side is around 30? while the room side temperature is higher than 32? in summer.No air curtains and the air distribution can not meet the design requirement;Upward air distribution towards the glass curtain wall(Type 3)and Vertical air distribution across the glass curtain wall(Type 4).Air throw height is 3.3m and the temperature is less than 24?,together with distinctive air layering.The temperature for the activity area is 24?26?.The temperature filed is evenly and there's no condensation on the glass in the working area.With smoke testing to research 6 types of air outlets: Air throw height of the roll-up grilles and double layer louver outlet for the blow through floor-mounted isolated air conditioner is higher than 4 meters.However,the breadth of the airflow is less than the width of the air conditioner unit,and the air curtain is incontinuous.Air throw height of the linear grille for the drawn through floor-mounted isolated air conditioner is higher than 2 meters.It can form continuous air curtains and the breadth of the airflow is wider than the air conditioner unit.Based on the experiment and testing and theoretical calculation to get the viscous effect of the thermal output of the isolated air conditioners(sample units),y=a?T+b,?T refers to temperature difference.The formulae can be used to checking if the design can meet the project requirements.And it helps the spread and application of the isolated air conditioner.Air drawn through isolated air conditioner,supplied with air guide plate and linear grilles,can form continuous air curtains near the glass curtain wall side to effectively avoid condensation in winter.With less indoor temperature difference,this type of air conditioner is more suitable for glass curtain wall buildings.
