The main equipment that can affect the handling efficiency of terminals includes quay crane,yard crane and container truck,etc.Among them,quay crane and yard crane have smaller working space and lower flexibility compared with truck because of their larger volume.Therefore,as an important equipment of container transportation between vessels and yards,the efficiency of truck operation is very important to the overall operation of the terminal.The container terminal trucks in China mainly adopt the dedicated dispatching mode,that is,the trucks are allocated to the fixed quay crane after the ship's corresponding handling quay crane is determined.In this mode,trucks can't provide service for different quay cranes or different vessels,half of the routes are empty during the operation,which results in huge waste of truck resources.In addition,the operation efficiency of quay cranes and trucks under dedicated dispatching mode will be greatly affected by the number and transport speed of trucks.When the number of trucks dedicated to quay crane is small or the transportation speed is low,the quay crane has to wait for trucks before next handling operation starts,which will further increase the berth time of ships.But if the number of trucks is large,firstly there will be waiting time for quay crane,and also it may increase the possibility of terminal congestion when the number of waiting trucks reaches a certain amount.Based on this,a new truck scheduling method named pool dispatching strategy emerges for the requirement of efficiency.Under this pool dispatching mode,the truck can be shared among different quay cranes and ships,which can effectively alleviate the problem of low utilization rate of truck.Firstly,this paper introduced the general theory of container terminal such as the basic layout of it and important handling equipment including container trucks,and then analyzed the operation process of import and export containers and the development characteristics of container terminals in China.Emphasis is laid on describing the operation mode of container terminals and truck dispatching mode,and illustrating the significance of truck pool dispatching mode.Based on the horizontal double cycling operation mode in which condition one vessel loading while the other unloading simultaneously,a truck scheduling model is set up and solved by genetic algorithm,aiming at the minimum empty transport time and waiting time of truck and considering the unequal amount of operation of import and export containers.To insure the facticity of data,the layout of Ningbo Daxie Merchants International Terminal and the previous operation data of ships are referred to set the background of case,and the optimal scheduling scheme of truck is studied under the given basic information of handling operation.Through calculation and comparative analysis,it is verified that compared with the traditional mode,the pool dispatching mode can reduce the total operating time,idle driving time and also the waiting time.
