China has a huge amount of electric bikes(e-bikes).Compared with other transportation modes,e-bikes have many advantages,such as low price,fast speed,providing“door-to-door”service,and being a green and environmentally friendly transportation mode.However,traffic accidents involving e-bikes are frequent,and the traffic safety problem of e-bikes has become a hot issue of traffic safety.Investigating the traffic behavior psychology of e-bike,especially the red light running which is the most dangerous behavior of e-bikes,is of great significance for reducing e-bikes accidents and improving road traffic safety.Based on the theory of planned behavior(TPB),this paper studied and analyzed the psychological inducement of the electric bike users'red light running intentions.A questionnaire on TPB basic variables,TPB extended variables and demographic variables was designed,and 160 valid survey samples were obtained in Chengdu for data analysis.The best subset method was applied to screen basic variables,extended variables and demographic variables.The maximum adjusted~2 is utilized as the optimal criterion to gain a best subset,which included attitude,perceived behavioral control,moral norm,self-identity,conformity tendency,descriptive norm,age,education level and marriage status.Hierarchical regression was constructed to understand the explanatory power of the best subset with respect to red light running behavior intention.The results revealed that the model can explain 39.8%of the intention variance.Attitude and perceived behavioral control had a significant positive impact on intention.Moral norm and self-identity had significant negative effects on intention.Age and education level also had a significant negative impact on intention.Secondly,the capacity of the model to reduce behavioral intention was verified by statistical simulation.All the significant psychological variables were manually adjusted to the score that was least likely to red light running,and the adjusted behavioral intention was calculated according to the hierarchical regression model.The results showed that the adjusted behavioral intention was 0.93 lower than that obtained from the actual survey,and Wilcoxon test showed that there was a significant difference between the two intentions.Then sensitivity analysis of attitude,perceived behavioral control,moral norm,and self-identity revealed that minor changes(0.2SD)in perceived behavioral control or moral norm,moderate change(0.5SD)in attitude or self-identity could significantly reduce behavior intention.Finally,with the principle of education programs priority,combination of emotional and factual message,and targeted design of different groups of people.The intervention strategy for electric bicycle users to red light running were formulated to improve the road traffic safety level.
