The development of modern tram improves the service quality of urban public transport system.But at intersections along the line,there are complex problems in the zebra crossing connecting with the station platform.The passengers from modern tram are several times of the pedestrians just crossing the street,and many pedestrian flows conflict with each other at crossing system.The current crossing facilities and control schemes can't meet the cross-street demand increasing suddenly and periodically.Through investigating and analyzing the crossing pedestrians' data of three modern tram intersections,this paper studied the pedestrian crossing characteristics,the capacity of the crossing system and its optimization strategies.The main results are as follows.(1)Analyzed the arrival characteristics of roadside pedestrians and outbound passengers.The arrival characteristics of roadside pedestrians conforms to the discrete random distribution.The arrival characteristics of outbound passengers is influenced by door design,departure interval,platform channel design,etc.Shows the characteristics of isosceles trapezoidal pulse wave.(2)Analyzed the influencing factors of pedestrian crossing speed.Summarized the influence mechanism of modern tram station platform,proportion of passenger flow to total street crossing flow,and each section of the crossing system on pedestrian crossing speed.(3)Constructed the three-parameter model of pedestrian traffic flow and the capacity model of crossing system.Analyzed the relationship among three parameters of pedestrian flow in conflict zone.The results are different from those of previous studies.Obtained the theoretical capacity of the crossing system through studying the relationship between flow and density.Analyzed the relationship between passenger proportion and capacity.Established the capacity model of the crossing system.(4)Studied the pedestrian crossing delay model.The time of modern trams coming and leaving made the pedestrians' delay different.Studied the models of pedestrian delays in no tram arriving,tram leaving on time and not on time respectively.(5)Proposed the optimization strategy from traffic control and traffic design.In the traffic control,adopt pedestrian secondary crossing control and signal priority control.In the design of traffic,set up independent passage areas for various pedestrian flow,improve traffic marking lines,and set up a three-dimensional crossing system.The above research results are applied to the planning and design of domestic trams.It can effectively improve the efficiency and safety of pedestrian crossing at intersections,and play a positive role in improving the urban traffic environment.
