With the increasing level of urban motorization,the contradiction between supply and demand of road traffic is becoming more and more serious.Influenced by the layout of urban planning and the travel habits of residents,the demand degree of each turning traffic flow at road intersections is often unbalanced in different periods.Especially at the peak of morning and evening commuter,when the demand of the turning traffic in the inlet road fluctuates greatly,the above problems can not be solved effectively by the traditional signal control method.The use of variable approach lane technology,which combines the function of approach lane as a "slow variable" with signal timing,can better solve the contradiction between static road traffic facilities and dynamic traffic demand.In view of this,on the basis of summarizing the existing research results at home and abroad,combined with the current development trend of intelligent traffic detection technology and signal control technology,this paper takes the intersection with turning imbalance as the research object,and discusses the dynamic conversion of variable steering lane and the corresponding signal optimization.Firstly,the basic theories of variable approach lane and adaptive signal control is introduced.For variable approach lane,the definition,setting conditions,setting principles and control methods are introduced.At the same time,the adaptive signal control is introduced from two aspects of classification and control principle,which provides a theoretical basis for the realization of adaptive control of variable approach lane.Then,the adaptive control model of variable approach lane at key intersection is proposed.On the basis of explaining the structure of the model and the function of each module,the model is described in terms of the road condition information collection and the adaptive control of the approach lane.Among them,the road condition information collection is mainly introduced from the selection and layout of traffic detectors,and the adaptive control of variable approach lane is divided into two aspects: function switching of approach lane and adaptive signal control.Furthermore,on the basis of effectively solving the problem of turning imbalance at a single intersection,the application scenario of variable approach lane is extended to adjacent downstream intersections,and an adaptive control model of variable approach lane considering adjacent intersections is proposed.For the variable approach lanes at the key intersection,the lane function will be adjusted dynamically considering the demand of key intersection and the carrying capacity of downstream intersections.Finally,taking the intersection and its adjacent intersection with significant turning imbalance as an example,the simulation model is built by calling COM interface of VISSIM software with MATLAB.By analyzing the simulation results of the control method described in this paper and other common control strategies,the effectiveness of the research results is verified by comparing the traffic capacity,average vehicle delay,queue length and parking times.
