Local Practice Of Ecological City

The disorderly development of industrial and mining development,land reclamation and over-grazing resulted in serious environmental problems in The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,China.Since 2000,central government and local governments at all levels in Inner Mongolia have paid more attention to environmental restoration using ecological engineering as a means.Based on the field investigation of environmental changes caused by ecological engineering in H?is? Village,Hohhot,Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,this paper attempts to analyze the process of environmental change in H?is? Village.We want to discuss effect of the construction of urban forest system with the goal of “Ecological City” on the livelihood,cultural adaptation and leading industries of the residents of the region.The author uses data studies and interview method to analyzes the environmental changes of H?is? Village from three aspects:(1)historical reasons leading to environmental changes;(2)the process of environmental changes;(3)villagers' livelihood changes caused by environmental changes.The author thinks that the fundamental reason for all kinds of problems in the process of environmental changes in H?is? Village lies in the fact that the newly formed surrounding environment is “disembedding” from the villagers.Villagers cannot get products from surrounding environment if they relies on existing knowledge or culture.It depends solely on the government to “input”,just like a child who are not weaned cannot stand on their own,and the result can only be the outflow of the population and the decline of the countryside.The author believes that the only way to maintain sustainable development is to strengthen the relationship between H?is? Village and its surrounding ecological environment.In addition,the living system of local people should be cared for as much as possible in densely populated cities and their suburbs where environmental changes caused by ecological engineering,especially in national regions with different culture backgrounds.The goal of building an "Ecological City" should be reflected in the system of “Community-Life-Environment” in which based on residents.
