| In every dynasty during China’s history,Shanxi was a place had always been contested.As a result,the economy and urban construction of Shanxi were highly developed with a range of classical buildings and gardens.Based on statistics,more than 120 timber buildings,which are 70 percent of timber buildings located in whole nation,constructed before Tang,Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms,Song,Liao dynasties(before A.D.1200)have been discovered within Shanxi province.Consequently,Shanxi province has been reputed as “the museum of ancient buildings”.With the development of ancient buildings,Chinese classical garden is not only an individual subject,but has also developed to another system in parallel with general buildings.The history of classical gardens construction within Shanxi province can even be tracked back to more than a thousand years ago.Currently,there are a great amount of classical gardens existing within the province.Jinci Garden is the oldest sacrificial garden(garden for fete/ sacrifice purpose)existing in China,which is the representative of memorial temples in Shanxi province.Jinci Garden consists of both natural landscapes and historical relics,the earlies construction can be tracked back to Beiwei dynasty.The combination of landscapes,vegetations,pavilions and different scenes contributes to the beauty of Jinci Garden.Although there are considerably rich resources of classical gardens in Shanxi province,the amount of studies focusing on theoretical analysis,protection and development of gardens is still limited.As a critical garden legacy resource,the joint application for World Cultural Heritage launched by Jinci Garden,Jinyang Ancient Township and Mountain Xishan in Taiyuan is processing.Figuring out how to illustrate artistical characteristics of Jinci Garden more clearly by proper protection and utilization is an important research topic.Meanwhile,the study of classical gardens can also provide direction for cultural legacy protection and municipal gardens construction and development.This study takes Jinci Garden as the object,utilizes literature review,site inspection and other research methods,considers landscape garden aspect and subjects such as planning,landscape,architecture,legacy protection etc..This study starts from the planning layout,spatial pattern and gardening construction characteristics of Jinci Garden to analyze gardening idea and current situation of Jinci Garden.Furthermore,this study provides a comprehensive and quantitative evaluation for Jinci Garden by evaluation method based on Landscape Performance Series(hereafter LPS).Subsequently,this study obtains conclusions for the sustainable development of Jinci Garden.Finally,this study proposed concentrated strategies and technical methods for the protection of Jinci Garden based on the evaluation results and current situation.Contents such as background,purpose,significance and research methods of this study will be illustrated in the beginning.This part will also introduce concepts like performance,landscape performance,classical garden performance and classical garden protection theory in both China and other areas in the world.Additionally,the major contents and framework of this study will be summarized.Relevant studies focusing on classical gardens from both China and other countries will be reviewed in this part.Moreover,these relevant studies will be categorized into theoretical study,quantitative study and protection study and so on.In the first part,some theoretical methods with reference value for this study will be determined.Then,the second part will analyze the subject of this study – Jinci Garden from planning layout,spatial pattern and gardening construction characteristics.Meanwhile,the construction of Jinci Garden will be illustrated based on historical data and relevant literatures.Furthermore,the construction idea of Jinci Garden will be concluded based on site inspection.According to mentioned information,this chapter will conclude and analyze the current situation of Jinci Garden and summarize disaster prevention and safety,Cultural heritage quality,Humanistic sociality.The next part is about attempting to build a landscape performance evaluation system for classical garden based on LPS theory.Additionally,evaluation indicators suitable to Jinci Garden will be selected by refining the collected data.Then we will apply hierarchy analysis to determine weight.Moreover,fuzzy comprehensive analysis method will be applied for calculation.Lastly,data collected from research will be calculated by this evaluation system.To provide strategy for protection,the evaluation result from the calculation will be analyzed.Combining the outcomes from Landscape Performance Evaluation system in previous chapter and operation,protection and current situation summary of Jinci Garden,we will propose protection strategies and technical protection methods focusing on the development of Jinci Garden to achieve the sustainable development of Chinese classic garden.The end of the part will state the limitations of this study and landscape performance evaluation method for Jinci Garden.In addition,we will make some expectation and prediction for the direction of Chinese classic garden research,legacy protection methodology and classic garden sustainable development strategy. |
