The type and structure of air cooling tower impact the flow field inside the tower directly,now the mainstream type of air cooling tower is hyperbolic form,but with the increase volume of air cooling tower,the disadvantages of the hyper cooling tower construction complex revealed gradually.The new structure form of air cooling tower is gradually applied in the actual.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the air cooling type that influence flow and heat transfer characteristics inside the air cooling tower.In this paper,a simplified numerical calculation model of air cooling tower was established by numerical simulation method,the flow field and temperature field of the air cooling tower under the condition of no wind in the experimental model were calculated,and the feasibility of the numerical calculation methods were verified by comparing the actual test results.This paper further verified the feasibility of the numerical calculation model in the 1:1 full-scale wind tunnel test of air cooling tower,and the simplified model can be used in the calculation of the actual size of air cooling tower.Aiming at the hyperbolic air cooling tower of Tumoteyou Qi power plant in China,the flow and heat transfer characteristics under the condition of no wind were calculated.When the height of the air cooling tower and radiator are the same as those of hyperbolic air cooling tower,the tower type of the air cooling tower is changed and the chimney section is changed into the form of cylinder and truncated cone cylinder,which is called the cylindrical columns-truncated cone tower.Numerical calculation results show that the flow field and heat transfer characteristics of hyperbolic air cooling tower are the best,under the condition of no wind suction force due to its structure is bigger than cylindrical type-truncated cone tower.When the outlet diameter of tower is not changed,the height of cylinder section of the tower to the total height of chimney section is 0.6,the flow and heat transfer characteristics are closest to the hyperbolic air cooling tower.When the column-cylinder height ratio is 0.6 and the size of the outlet diameter is changed,the calculation results show that the change of the outlet diameter has a great influence on the air mass flow rate of the air cooling tower.When the outlet diameter to the inlet diameter ratio is 0.7,the flow characteristics of the air cooling tower can be closest to the hyperbolic air cooling tower.Composited the calculation results of cylindrical columns-truncated cone tower,the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the cylindrical columns-truncated cone tower,although not as good as the hyperbolic air cooling tower,those differences are not obvious,the new type of cylindrical columns-truncated cone tower structure is feasible.When design the tower type,the column tube height ratio and the outlet diameter ratio should be considered,column tube height ratio around 0.6,ratio outlet diameter about 0.7,and the size should be considered according to the actual construction situation.
