Economic globalization rapid expansion of city and industry transformation,and frequent economic and cultural blend,have made the cities growing convergence,lost the traditional impression of the city.The symbol of the industrial age,old industrial buildings,faced up with the elimination.The industrial history and culture contained in the city memory has no alternative but to express and inherit.The strategy of renovation and renewal is the best way to continue the memory of the city and revitalize the old buildings.However,in recent years,although the renovation of old industrial buildings has gradually increased,the sustainable reuse after the renovation has been neglected.There is no appropriate elasticity in terms of space and function.For this reason,future uncertainties should be taken into account in the design renewal strategy.Using the thinking method of elastic design,which is different from the traditional mechanical functionalism design,it emphasizes the adaptability and flexibility expression of the future social and human development and change needs,which is in line with the thought of today's sustainable development strategy.This paper firstly puts forward the predicament and background of the renovation of old industrial buildings,points out the necessity of introducing elastic design,and at the same time,sorts out and explores the development context and practical activities of the concept of architectural elastic design.Then,on the basis of these theoretical studies and combining the current era background of sustainable development as the entry point,this paper points out the limitations and irreversibility of the existing old industrial building reconstruction mode,and through field investigation and analysis of the reconstruction cases under different modes,finds the root cause of the problem—the lack of the renovation design that can be dynamically adjusted.Therefore,based on the principle of sustainable dynamic renovation,the elastic design method is adopted,and the existing design methods and relevant theories are used to extract and summarize the elastic design strategy suitable for the renovation of old industrial buildings.Finally,based on the practice of Harlan Thermal Power Plant project in Bayan Hot town,the principles and methods summarized above are applied to renovate Harlan Thermal Power Plant into a space system that can flexibly adapt to the diachronic changes of environment and demand.Based on this,the universal applicability of elastic design method in the old industrial building reconstruction is explored,the existing problems in the current reconstruction design are solved,and new design ideas are proposed for the reconstruction method of old industrial building in the future.The aim of this paper is to make the renovation and utilization of old industrial buildings reversible,adjustable and sustainable while adapting to the needs of the times.In its whole life cycle,continue its own historical value and at the same time give full play to the use of space value.The research in this paper enriches the theoretical basis and practical experience of elastic design and old building renovation design provides strong theoretical support for properly solving related renovation problems,and provides reference and inspiration for subsequent research.
