An asteroid surface probing device and its localization method are studied based on ZigBee network technology.The hardware of the device includes power supply system,communication system,temperature sensor and so on.The device is designed to have a miniature cubic configuration,equipped with multiple ZigBee modules which are symmetrically installed on the cube.Such design guarantees at least one ZigBee module in the healthy communication state for networking after the distribution of the probing devices on the asteroid surface.The Received Signal Strength Indicator(RSSI)is extracted and analyzed to calculate the relative distance between devices for the modeling of the network topology.The classical trilateration is modified to accomplish the self-localization of the devices relative to the network.Finally,an experimental platform is designed to verify the proposed technology of networking and positioning in the lab environment,and the simulation experiment is carried out on PC,followed with a simple analyze of possible problems and solutions in the future practical application.
