Sustainability is nowadays not only a concept for environmentalists, but a transformation goal for developed countries and the best development option for developing countries alike. It means going forward while being respectful with the planet, being green. The seemingly contradictive nature of today's capitalist world and a green lifestyle are still a matter of debate, for which this paper provides an answer: a green market economy stage fuelled by renewables.Renewable energy to power society's development, while driving away the main cause of pollution, will be the key to a transition stage.Solar power, more specifically, will reign among the energy sources of the future mix.Not only the current drops in solar prices are causing springs of new policies and incentives, but solar is the best solution for millions of people living in communities without access to a grid, who in turn generate more pollution by burning traditional unhealthy energy sources.Capitalism is considered as the equivalent of a market economy in this paper, without any other political connotation, since ecological capitalism simply aims to achieve green economic growth through use of the current global market practices, without challenging any political system.Proving the success of green capitalism is of paramount importance for countries to believe in the green measures they are undertaking and the sustainable world they are aiming for.The combination of a new statist approach where the government is the main driver of change shows that sustainability in the form of publicly supported capitalism can be green,as long as it acts as a transition towards a greener and more inclusive economy. Now countries around the world can aim for a reality, and it starts with the energy system.
