Nowadays, the key sources of energy to support the development of China's economy are still coal, petroleum, natural gas and so on.But as we know, the total quantity of these fossil fuels is limited, and the excess use of fossil fuel has led to very severe environment pollution. As a result, nuclear power, clean and efficient, becomes the strategic component of domestic energy supply. At recent years, the development of nuclear power station is very prosperous.Dozens of nuclear power station are put into operation every year.At the same time, the spent fuel produced by nuclear reactor cumulates day by day.Considering the spent fuel handling technology and stratagem selection, the building of spent fuel away-from-reactor storage facility is urgent.Considering the location of the existing stations, the best way is to build some regional away-from-reactor storage facilities.Location choosing of away-from-reactor storage facilities is a systemic work including not only meeting the requirements of standard, policy, society, geography, and also the economy aspect. The most important is the transportation cost between the existing nuclear power stations and the chosen away-from-reactor storage facility. This thesis focuses on the five existing nuclear power stations locating in the south China. In order to decide the size of the away-from-reactor storage facility, the quantity of spent fuel to be produced by these stations in the future 20 years should be forecasted.Based on cost evaluation of the present spent fuel transportation way,the best choice of the away-from-reactor storage facility is Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station. This conclusion is a useful reference for the future research on location choosing of away-from-reactor storage facility.
