Glass is a promising dose-estimating physical dosimeter material because of its low cost, chemical inertness, good stiffness, easy handling, and universal availability. In the event of a nuclear accident or sudden radiation accident, the EPR measurement can be carried out on the glass taken along the person or in the accident area,by which accident dose can be quickly estimated, the severity of the accident can be assessed, and the irradiated patients can be promptly medically treated. At present, most researchers mainly choose the glasses of objects carried by people, such as watches and mobile phone.Research on architectural glass(window glass)is rare, and most studies focus on the radiation characteristics of single-type window glass in high-dose areas. There is a lack of comparative studies on the radiation characteristics of different window glasses in low dose areas. Therefore, the author used EPR spectroscopy technology to study the dosimetric characteristics of three types of commercial window glasses in low dose areas(0-30Gy).The window glass was processed into different particle sizes, and the effects of the grinding process on the background signal and the radiation signal were separately studied;the washing with different solutions was carried out,and the influence of the cleaning was explored by EPR detection;the influence of the annealing treatment on the radiation signal was explored;the window glass samples given different irradiation dose were stored under different conditions to observe the influence of temperature, light and time on the EPR signal;the dose response curve and the minimum detection dose of the window glasses of different manufacturers were compared. The results show that the grinding process has no obvious influence on the background signal and radiation signal of the window glass, but it is convenient to the experimental operation when the samples were processed to a particle size of 1-2 mm;the washing solution(ethanol and distilled water)will not affect the EPR signal;the irradiated window has a radiation signal, and it is at g=2.0038±0.0016;the higher the annealing temperature, the faster the window glass radiation signal decays, and the 200“C 20 minute annealing process can remove the radiation signal;sunlight can accelerate the decay of the radiation signal,low-temperature storage can slow down this decline, indoor lighting has no effect on the radiation signal;for different types of window glass from different manufacturers, the background signal and radiation response are different;the minimum detection dose of each window glass is greater than 5 Gy;transparent window glass shows more suitable than other window glasses for dosimetry and classification applications. Therefore, window glass has a good application prospect in reviewing dosimetry, but it needs to be continuously optimized in future work.
