The development of society and economy has brought tremendous changes to the contemporary city and its underground space. The boundaries between urban ground and underground are becoming more and more blurred, and the interpenetration and integration between them are becoming closer and closer. The connection between them is increasing constantly, which is to adapt to the development of three-dimensional,compound and socialization of urban space.Show the trend. In the process of urban construction and development in the future, the integration and symbiosis of urban underground space and urban public space will be more extensive to build urban space system and improve urban functions. Therefore, the development of the city requires integration of the urban and the underground space. It is necessary to explore the internal relations of the elements in space and make use of the mechanism of interaction among the functions to actively improve the relationship between the elements.Only in this way can we overcome the tendency of separating the elements of urban form between ground and underground in the process of development,so as to achieve new integration. In this context, this paper starts with the concept of integration of underground space and overground space of public buildings, guides by specific examples, and conducts in-depth discussion and Research on integration degree in the form of schema through statistical methods.Firstly, this paper briefly discusses the research background, research status, research methods, significance and related concepts of the integration of underground space and overground space of public buildings.Secondly,it defines the underground space and the above-ground space of public buildings, and probes into the category of integration of the two spaces in urban design literature. Then it elaborates the factors that affect the integration degree of underground and space from both physical and psychological aspects.Through these factors,it establishes five building physical elements related to the integration degree, and chooses 100 contemporary public underground buildings at home and abroad for statistical analysis of these elements and their variables. The analysis results are applied to the design of the Extension Project of Museum of Wellington City&Sea for illustration. The research results can be enlightening for contemporary underground architectural design. The integration improvement methods summarized and put forward will have certain reference value in the actual practice of urban underground construction.
