Research On The Value And Application Of Classical Photography In The Age Of Digital Image

Since its birth in 1839,Photography has not entered the era of mechanical reproduction until the debut of silver salt film in 1889.As a result,shooting and presentation of images relied on hand-made.In order to preserve clear images,photographers have invented various manual printing processes.Most of these manual printing processes belong to non-silver salt contact printing processes,blue printing process,Van Dyke printing process,protein printing process,just to name a few.These manual processes have created one after another milestones in the history of photography.Classical photography is the general term for these traditional hand-printing processes.In 1889,the debut of convenient silver salt film revolutionized the industry of photography.The classical photography process was gradually replaced by silver salt film due to the complexity of its production process.Whether as a recording tool or as a creative mean,classical photography is gradually being forgotten.Nowadays,in the digital age,the emergence of digital images makes image shooting and presentation no longer a difficult task,and people are more and more convenient to obtain images.Although digital image is conducive to the spread and development of photography,it has also led to the simplification of image presentation methods.People have begun to pursue more creative means and expressions in addition to digital images.As a craft art from the 19 th century,classical photography has its unique artistic and technical value,which brings itself back to current photographers’ attentions.Photographers began to revitalize the classical photography process by combining the latest digital technology with classical photography.As a result,classical photography process has renewed its vitality in the digital imaging era.The unique classical print works get rid of the stereotypes of the digital image era,and its artistic charm is irreplaceable in the digital imaging era.This paper further studies the value of classical photography in the digital imaging era through the discussion of the characteristics of classical photography.Through the practical application of the blue printing process and Van Dyke printing process,and certain operation process of classical photography techniques,this paper tries to explain the process of applying the classical photography technique as a special expression form and technical means into creation of photography and deepen understanding of photography art.As an important part of the history of photography,classical photography has inherited and developed classical photography in the digital imaging era.It is of great significance to the continuation of photography techniques,the enrichment of photography language,and the diversified development of photography.
