The Tanzania-Zambia Railway has been built since 1976.After 42 years of ups and downs,it still operates between Tanzania and Zambia,providing safeguards for economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.The construction of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway has a special historical background.The construction of the railway involving China,Tanzania and Zambia not only solved the problem of Zambia exporting copper ore to the outside world,but also made Zambia's copper export no longer controlled by Southern Rhodesia.Moreover,the construction of the railway made Tanzania-Zambia closer and laid the foundation for consolidating their national independence.The construction of Tanzania-Zambia Railway not only influenced the political situation in Africa at that time,but also influenced the life style of the residents along Tanzania-Zambia Railway and the social changes of the cities along Tanzania-Zambia Railway.Taking Mbeya Region in Tanzania as an example,this paper reveals the impact of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway on the cities along the line through the social changes of Mbeya Region before and after the completion of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway.The Tanzania-Zambia Railway has attracted a large number of young and middle-aged workers in the construction process.Over time,some young people who moved to different areas because of the construction of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway have settled in different cities along the railway,increasing the population of the cities along the railway.With the formal operation of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway,the residents along the railway have developed a new way of survival,that is taking advantage of the advantages of the cheap and convenient Mobile trade between residences and nearby markets or the sale of goods by means of Railways themselves.Towns along the railway have begun to revitalize.The opening of Tanzania-Zambia Railway has made the trade between different regions expand continuously.Resources-rich areas have begun to expand their markets by means of railways.In this process,not only foreign investors have attracted their attention,but also the migration of migrants.Some cities and towns have begun the process of urbanization.It is under the influence of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway that Mbeya Region grew and grew.Mbeya is the last Region where the Tanzanian Railway passes through Tanzania,which is close to Zambia.Mbeya Region is located in the southwest of Tanzania,and is an important producer of coffee,wheat,tea and pyrethrum in Tanzania.The development of animal husbandry and fishery occupies an important position in Tanzania.In addition,Mbeya Region also has gold,niobium,coal,iron,mica and other mineral deposits.The opening of Tanzania-Zambia Railway has brought the resources advantages of Mbeya Region into full play,expanded the circulation scope of commodities,and promoted the development of trade with the surrounding areas.The opening of Tanzania-Zambia Railway has made Mbeya go through a series of social changes,which in turn affect the development of railways.They are closely related.Through the case study of Mbeya Region,this paper attempts to explore the impact of Tanzania-Zambia Railway on the social development and change of cities along the line from multiple dimensions,and then draws some universal conclusions.
