A Study On Cultural Landscape In The Perspectives Of Ecological Culture

The term "Cultural landscape" is becoming a hot pot in various academic fields.For the expanded notion of "cultural landscape",all the landscapes are cultured.So titling landscape with cultural is redundant.But this paper still uses cultural landscape as an examining object,to emphasize most of landscapes,if not all,were shaped by human activities.This paper traces the studies of cultural landscape in main disciplines.It identifies three levels of cultural landscape studies and the three dimensions of the landscape.In a philosophic way,it explores the rich and deep meanings of cultural landscape,and fingers out the functions and potentials of cultural landscape as well.The paper concludes that landscapes were shaped by culture.Culture is both dynamic and effect.Landscapes are presentations of human being's ways of life,social customs and cultural values.The world can be read out with landscapes.In turn,landscapes,with sophisticated meanings of theirs,can meet the needs of different people;rebuild common memory and social communities.Also,landscape is the naive way of perceiving the universe,and the way poetically dwelling Man on this earth or Dasein in German used by Heidegger to expressed human existence.For dealing with ecological crisis and environment problems,people from various disciplines come together to find solutions.It is the common ecological concerns,the needs for ecological culture construction that makes this interdisciplinary communication possible.Cultural landscape can be seen as an effective conceptual category in which we think and discuss the environmental or ecological issues and talk about ecological culture.Looking at the landscapes,we actually meet ecological environments.This paper argues that facing the tendency of city homogenization,rural landscape reduction,the earth vitality weakness and the shadow of cultural landscape,we should break through the partial understanding of landscape,to rethink and explore the potential dynamic of cultural landscape in order to plan and construct landscapes in where the ecological diversity be conserved,cultural diversity be maintained,cultural identification be constituted,and ways of life and values be diversified.
