The insulation deterioration of power equipment will lead to equipment damage and even accidents. And partial discharge is the main factor to result in insulation deterioration. If partial discharge is not found in time, the insulation deterioration will be aggravated gradually, and even lead to insulation breakdown. It will be a great impact on the safe operation of power system. So the detection and accurate location of partial discharge is of great significance to improve the security and reliability of power system.Firstly, this paper designed an UHF-ultrasonic joint detection system for partial discharge. The system was used to collect the UHF and ultrasonic signals generated by partial discharge and transmitted the data to the computer. The software of the detection system was designed by LabVIEW,which realizes the functions of data storage, signal processing and result display.Secondly, the signal was digitally filtered and analyzed by using the wavelet toolbox of MATLAB.And the noise was filtered from the signal and frequency spectrum was analyzed. The results showed that the joint detection system designed in this paper could detect the partial discharge signal and identify the type of discharge with high accuracy. Finally, the discharge source was located by the acoustic-electrical method. The error between the measured result and the actual distance is within an acceptable range. It proved that the UHF-ultrasound joint detection system can meet the design requirements.
