Domestic automobile manufacturers import a lot of bearings currently.Due to the pressure on cost,quality and lead time problems,they need to promote the localization of important bearings.But the automobile manufacturers have not deep understanding on bearings,thus they cannot provide enough input information and boundary conditions to the bearing manufacturers,for which it seems quite a difficult job to fulfill.Company A obtained the V-bearing project,and need to decide how to build the product competitive advantage over using the original design and lowering the cost,or make different design to meet the domestic load condition?Should company A outsource the key manufacturing process or do it by self-production to improve the operational capability and extend the competition boundary?This paper finds three problems lie in company A that are unclear positioning of product level,insufficient planning of product design and lack of systematic outsourcing.For the development of V-bearing,four possible strategies are made,which are cost leadership plus outsourcing general process,cost leadership plus self-production,different product design plus outsourcing general process,different product design plus self-production.Delphi Method is used for the evaluation considering characteristics,quality,price,lead time and productivity.The first and third strategy were implemented.After the quantitative and qualitative analysis,the third strategy turn out to be the most suitable one in characteristic,quality,lead time and productivity,except that the price is relatively higher than other strategies.Besides,the third strategy can better reflect company A's business philosophy and industry status than others.The research methods and achievement of this paper are valuable and is of significance for other companies when encountering similar new production development cases.
