PD(Partial Discharge)signals contain rich insulation condition information.Meanwhile,Partial Discharge is not only the precast and expressions of fragile insulation point. Also,Partial Discharge is the reason for the weak insulation points of equipment to get worse and develop into a further more serve insulation weak point. Thus,Partial discharge on-line monitoring has become one of the most effective methods for insulation testing and diagnosis.Ultra-high frequency(UHF)electromagnetic waves has the obvious advantages of electromagnetic wave has strong anti-background electromagnetic wave interference ability, high sensitivity to detection signal, electromagnetic wave propagation at high speed and fast transmission speed.Based on the analysis of ultra-high frequency electromagnetic wave signals released by physical and chemical reaction during partial discharge, the location of partial discharge location with weak insulation is realized. This paper introduces the significance of the on-line monitoring and localization of partial discharge, and briefly introduces the current methods of PD detection and localization. The paper discusses the location method of PD in 2D and 3D Based on the TDOA.As traditional algorithm for solving non-linear equations are easily influenced by the ranging error,in order to improve the accuracy of positioning, the PSO algorithm is used to optimize the positioning results, and the corresponding simulation experiments are carried out to verify the rationality of the algorithm presented in this paper. Finally, implementation of the hardware function and the locating method was described in the paper. The feasibility of locating the partial discharge location in substation is verified by the simulation experiment in laboratory and the comparison with the actual data of substation.
