| This thesis describes the fatigue analysis of amid ship ULANGA,a container ship of 2200 TEU,Designed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design&Research institute(SDARI),and built by YangFan group Co.,LTD,PR China. The vessel is of fully cellular construction and suitable for worldwide trading operation carrying containers.Fatigue is an important phenomenon that causes damage failure around the weld at member cornections of ship structures.Fatigue happens due to high stress concentrations in the long term since loading conditions are time-dependent and continuous in dynamic sea environment.Fatigue crack starts at a localized spot and will with cyclic stress gradually increase over the cross section of the memberIn the present study, the welded longitudinal reinforcement stiffener at the double bottom amidship was analyzed for fatigue using the simplified rule load by analytical procedure. The result obtained from this analysis will serve as a guide for early design, modification and improvement in design as well as also used for periodic surveys to ensure that ships are maintained in conformity with the Classification Societies guidelines. As the design was subjected to various load condition obtained from Lloyds approved loading plan for ship. The result showed large sensitivity between the fatigue Damage and load, fatigue damage, stresses acting in the section considered as well as the Weibull shape parameter. With the thickness of plate at 11 mm,the fatigue life of the tank under study was determined and found to be 38 years.A further 53.8%increase in the fatigue life was recorded when the design was adjusted to increase the plate thickness from 11 mm to 12 mm. |
