The Tesla transformer is a high-voltage device based on the dual-loop resonance theory that obtains a high-frequency AC voltage at the secondary end by resonantly boosting the two-stage coil.The transformer utilizes high-voltage resonance for energy transfer,and the output voltage amplitude and frequency are not affected by the magnetic core,and has the advantages of simple structure,stable performance,easy realization,and low cost.Tesla transformers have greater advantages in high frequency and high amplitude voltage output requirements,and are widely used in many fields such as high frequency pulse source generators,electrical parameter detection of insulating materials,and wireless energy transmission.In this paper,the theoretical analysis of the Tesla transformer resonance model was carried out,and the effects of primary and secondary loop resistance,coupling coefficient and detuning coefficient on the output voltage were discussed.The MATLAB modeling and simulation were used to get the trend of the changes of output voltage under different factors.Based on this theoretical analysis and modeling simulation,the optimal design of the primary and secondary loop coils of the Tesla transformer,the selection of the electrical parameters of the loop and the design of the control system were completed.Finally,a spiral with a turns ratio of 4:800 was developed.The linear Tesla transformer prototype can output high frequency and high voltage with amplitude above 220 kV and frequency of 300 kHz.Through the measurement of the output voltage and current of the prototype,combined with the modeling simulation results,the design scheme could meet the expected output voltage requirements.In order to meet the output voltage measurement requirements,a pico-level plate capacitor divider was fabricated,and the high-frequency signal and pulse ratio calibration were completed.Using the high frequency and high voltage output of the designed prototype,it can be applied to the flashover experiment of different types of insulators,and Comparing the flashover voltage measured by the high frequency and high voltage output of the Tesla transformer with power frequency creeping voltage and lightning shock flashover voltage,the results showed that the Tesla transformer output high frequency and high voltage can detect the insulator flashover more effectively,and has the advantages of simple structure,stable performance and more economical.
