With the deep research of the magnetic field, the pulsed magnetic field plays a unique role in in the area of scientific research and modern industry. The pulsed power system is an important part of the pulsed magnetic field. It determines the waveform, pulse width and a series of indicators of magnetic field. Currently, there are different kinds of pulsed power systems in the world. The high voltage and energy storage capacitor power supply is most widely used for its simple structure, easy to manufacture, high reliability. But the capacitor as the energy storage component needs to be charged in advance. Therefore, a high performance charging system is crucial for the whole pulsed magnetic field system. This paper aims to develop a high performance high voltage capacitor charging power supply(CCPS) based on reliable and stable power supply for the pulsed magnetic field system.The CCPS is mainly based on modern power electronics technology which is charged in the conditions of high frequency high voltage(HFHV), and fast response. Comparing several existing charge technology and considering the system efficiency, power density, the charging speed and precision, this paper will select the high frequency series resonant circuit as the main circuit. The transformer is not only the core of the energy transfer but also the key to achieve the voltage rise of output terminal, so the design of HFHV transformers plays a key role.Because the charger works in the environment of HFHV, there are many problems need to be resolved, such as the parasitic parameters of components, the design and realization of HFHV transformers and the electromagnetic interference of HFHV transformer between other elements of the main circuit and control circuit and so on. In addition to the above, the circuit resonance, soft switching, and the design and implementation of hardware and software protecting circuit are also the keys. In this paper, these difficulties need to be solved and a good working stability charger needs to be developed.Based on the theoretical analysis, simulation and experimental tests in the process of implementation of the charger, the construction and commissioning of the charger device are completed. Through experimental platform, the results of different experimental conditions are compared and analyzed to verify the rationality of the design. Ultimately, the development of the high voltage charging machine is implemented. It has constant charging current, a good linearity of charging voltage(up to 18kV), a fast charging speed, and stable operating characteristics.
