With fast development of parametric design and numerical control machining,buildings with complex forms are being appreciated by architects because of their visual expression of free surface forms.In this article,I select typical examples of complex-form buildings around the world,and,before carefully studying the envelope and structure systems of selected examples,classify these examples by three standards,which are the different logics of form construction,the different materials they use,and the different relationships between envelope and structure systems.Based on research of large amount of typical cases,this article concludes a general assessment standard of the rationality of the envelope and structure of complex-form buildings.The standards include beauty,cost,structural reliability and difficulty of building.Especially,more quantized standards,such as regularity,smoothness and stability,are set for buildings using 3D meshes.After case study,the article focuses on the possible design of OS-10 B office building in the Olympic business and cultural district,aiming to propose some possible designs using the construction logic method and the division and optimization of space meshes.Finally,a general process on the 3D mesh division and optimization is proposed for future study,and several basic laws of rationality of envelope and structure systems are concluded.
