With the urban development, the problems of flooding, water pollution and water shortage are increasingly serious, and the water environment problem nowadays has become the key issue to the process of urbanization.By quickly draining the rainwater through municipal pipe, the traditional dispose of stormwater is excessively focused on the avoidance of flood and waterloggings, which inevitably caused the loss of water resources and the destruction of balance in urban aquatic ecology. Therefore, how to promote the stormwater’s quality in the stormwater’s management and make it a useful resource that can be used to improve the urban environment have become the challenges faced by future urban development.Since the concept of “sponge city” was proposed in 2013,many cities and regions of China have been devoting their efforts to its pilot implementation. However,in the pilot cities, there appeared many similar and monotonous landscapes during the construction of low-impact development(LID)projects.Previously, the stormwater management was totally overlooked in the landscape design, but now the stormwater management has been excessively emphasized, resulting in the neglect of the landscape design itself.Namely,it has placed too much emphasis on its functions rather than the public’s involvement. There are many domestic researches on rainwater dispose techniques, but few on the reasonable utilization of rainwater to participatory landscape space. Then, under the circumstance of “sponge city”,how can we control the runoff amount with low-impact development, make good use of the rainwater storage resources, integrate the scientific stormwater management and the artistry of the landscape space, and encourage public’s involvement into the process of stormwater management? The solution of those questions is of great significance for the improvement of the quality of urban public space. The current research target is located in Yanhegou,Changli County,Hebei Province. With a high comprehensiveness and a huge research value, the researched site includes the residential area, municipal roads and Riverfront Park. The author, based on the literature review, carries out a case study on the development trend of stormewater management and participatory design. At the same time, the methods such as site survey, questionnaires and field interviews are adopted to analyze the behavior characteristics of the local residents and their habit of space usage, summarize the current situation and problems of rainwater disposal and activity space, and finally explore the methods of designing participatory landscape based on the rainwater dispose macroscopically and microcosmically. This thesis,by analyzing the components, spatial characteristics and form of stormwater management and participatory landscape, explores the relationship between stormwater management system and activity space system.By extending the flowing course of rainwater on the whole site, the size and layout of LID and superimposing the rainwater flow path, users’ participation model, spatial layout and people’s behavioral path, the spatial form, layout and tour routes of participatory landscapes can be determine to guide the stormwater run from the source(residential area)to the end(river)to participate in the interaction between people and the site. The combination of the local traditional cultural elements such as Yangge with the rain participatory landscape elements into a harmonious whole not only made the collection, transmission and utilization of rainwater an ecologically sustainable design, but provided an interesting and participatory entertainment space for people of different ages, which not only meet public’s need for entertainment but let people understand the precious value of water. This thesis explores the relationship between stormwater management and participatory landscape based on the case study of landscape design along the Yangou River Park, with an aim to bring a new perspective to the landscape design of “sponge city”.
