Up till this day,the dichotomy of conservation and development of Old Beijing City is still a complex issue. How to protect the historical urban landscape and urban texture while referring to economy laws and capital redevelopment needs calls for the wisdom of relevant experts and scholars urgently. In recent years, one in-ignorable Old Beijing City renewal practice is Qianmen East, which includes Xianyukou, one of the first twenty-five historical and cultural conservation areas in Beijing,as well as Caochang District. It has also witnessed several overall planning and chaijian(demolition and construction)ever since 21 st century. On the other hand, architects nowadays prefer more and more micro-scale and micro-intervention renewal method. Therefore, the objective observation and recording of local dwellers' everyday life have set the basis for adaptive reuse and necessary refurbishment. This thesis takes urban texture as the main object, and carries on the observation and research of mainly local old city dwellers' behaviors from the meso scale and ‘big data' point of view.Making use of the ever-rising theory of architecture experienced from a God's eye view and typological research methodology, the research is based upon Google Earth satellite images as well as in-depth field research to obtain needed information.A 180-meter width ‘Caochang segment' is chosen as the main object to analyze the evolution of its urban texture from 2010 to 2016.From the comparative study, this thesis has come to the following conclusions:(1)the number and proportion of flat roof buildings have increased significantly.(2)Kitchen makes up the most extensions while the greatest increase in number is also the kitchen.(3)The number of H-shaped open space in the courtyard has reduced and the limited open space is facing elimination.(4)The number of trees has dropped significantly, and the green coverage rate has decreased drastically. This thesis first reveals the changes through a large number of graphics, statistics and research data, then analyzes the causes and effects of various changes, finally from an urban design perspective, raised certain relevant suggestions.
