Dry bulk goods account for 40% in the total world transportation of fleet capacity,so bulk carriers occupy an important position role in the world transportation by sea. However, because of the side shell panels are the relatively thin structure of Bulk carriers,a great many of marine accidents have been happened,in which significant personnel and property losses have been caused. As a result, the research on ultimate capacity of side shell panels and the redundancy evaluation are importantly significant to enhance the security of bulk carrier structure.(1)Local failure mechanism of side shell panels has been studyed, and the damage models have been established.(2)According to the requirements of senior CSR buckling, using nonlinear finite element method, ultimate capacity of complete and damaged side shell panels have been calculated. The influence of ultimate capacity of panels on finite element model, load cases, introduced defects, boundary conditions and other factors have been researched.(3)The concept of structure redundancy has been explained, and a structure redundancy verification scheme is proposed.A structural redundancy assessment for a bulk carrier has been done. |
