The Research On Campus Plan And Architecture Of The Gingling College Site

Modern architecture(1840-1949)is in the transition stage of Chinese architecture from ancient to modern,and modern university campus architecture is one of the architectural types which can best reflect the collision between East and West tradition and modern culture.In the process of construction,the concept of planning and architectural design appears to be a game between completely transplanting the western model and combining with the local re-creation.The campus planning and architectural design of Gingling College is precisely under this complex time and space background and carries on the exploration,has provided the reference paradigm for the later Chinese campus architecture creation.Fristly,the paper analyzes the campus planning and construction of Gingling College’s modern buildings by means of literature collection,field mapping and analogy.Sets up the government document,the architect and the owner of the correspondence,the school board meeting minutes file and design drawings of relevant historical documents,analysis in the process of construction project management and construction plan,which sets Gingling College construction process.Secondly,in aspect of historical development of modern university campus planning,comparing modern Chinese and foreign university spatial forms and planning ideas,excavated the characteristics and causes of the layout of the campus planning of Gingling College.Summing up the three aspects of planning thought: gradual development,local conditions and regional linkage development;Thirdly,through the combination of modern space,modern technology and traditional style,the characteristics of space and technology are summarized,and through the expression of Chinese traditional architectural modeling elements in the modern architecture of Gingling College,the characteristics of its formal level are summarized.Finally,taking Gingling College as the carrier,this paper summarizes the influence of Gingling College on the formation and development of Henry Killam Murphy’s Adaptive Architecture Theory and its five elements put forward by Murphy.Through the above research on the campus planning and construction of Gingling College,this paper provides a theoretical basis for the restoration and protection of Gingling College University in the future,and expands the related research on the existing Gingling College campus and the modern church university architecture.
