A Study On The Discipline History Of The Relationship Between Modern Academic Organizations And City Planning Development

Nowadays City Planning Society of China(UPSC)has played an irreplaceable role in promoting discipline development in city planning that their mutual relevance is self-evident.In early modern times,although there was no planning discipline in a complete sense,and no academic organization that specialized in city planning research.However,facing the needs of modern urban construction,city planning knowledge had been passed on to China,along with disciplines like engineering,municipal administration,and architecture etc.,which applied it in practice,and been widely discussed among these academic organizations of these disciplines.These academic explorations or research applications which occurred earlier than the current specific planning activities had formed an important foundation for modern city planning disciplines and academic organizations in China.With the transformation of urban and rural planning today,how should city planning disciplines and academic organizations self-organize? How should academic organizations promote the development of the discipline? These issues are unavoidable for city planning disciplines and city planning societies.It is therefore particularly necessary to learn from history and look back at the interaction between academic organizations and disciplines in the past.First of all,this paper selects the city planning activities of modern academic organizations as the research object,analyzes the historical background of the city planning research in the modern academic organization activities,and statistically describes and explains the academic organizations that carried out city planning research.After that,the author combs the formation and evolution of this phenomenon from a diachronic perspective.The research takes the number,content,and type of city planning activities as the focus of academic organizations.It mainly considers the academic background of the academic organization which carried out city planning research and divides the development process into three phases: the project-led incubation phase,and the multidisciplinary-debating development stage and the stable stage of engineering,municipal administration,and construction progress together.It is hoped that the characteristics of activities in the corresponding stages can be grasped on the basis of objective description.Secondly,based on the perspective of the history of urban-rural planning disciplines,three directions are selected: academic research and activities in city planning,development and perspectives of city planning disciplines,and city planning practices and promotion.This study explores the correlation between modern academic organizations and the development of city planning disciplines in a topical manner.In the research and activities conducted by academic organizations,research groups,academic activities,and research results related to city planning are being discussed emphatically.In the part of academic development and perspectives,the focus is on describing the perspectives and understanding of academic organizations on the basic elements of city planning disciplines(such as concepts,knowledge formation,occupation and education,etc.)from the perspective of historical development.As for the direction of practice and research,this paper uses the discussion theme changes of academic organizations of city planning practice as a clue to sort out three planning themes: urban autonomy,municipal organization and post-war,then starts with the changes in planning and practice concepts in academic organizations to discuss the main concepts of each period and their impact on planning practice.Finally,this study attempts to objectively evaluate the historical position of modern academic organizations in the development of city planning disciplines from the three aspects of academic,disciplinary development and practice,and compares them with the current situation to provide suggestions for development of city planning disciplines and academic organizations.
