Efflorescence phenomenon on the pavement bricks seriously impacts the appearance of pavements system, the quality of engineering, and the period of engineering projects.Since the applications of pavement bricks inside our country have a short history, only few reports have focused on the topics related to efflorescence phenomenon on pavement bricks. Therefore,it is high time to solve the efflorescence problems occurring frequently on pavement bricks.Based on the practical engineering, this research discussed the mechanism of efflorescence and the solving measures to prevent efflorescence through the experimental research and analysis. The research results are mainly reflected in the following six aspects:1.Through the analysis of X-ray diffractometer,it was confirmed that the main ingredient produced by efflorescence was sodium rather than calcium, which could be utilized to analyze mechanism of efflorescence and to explore the appropr iate method to prevent efflorescence.2.A simply practical test method which is used to test the anti-efflorescence ability on pavement bricks was proposed according to the conditions of the efflorescence on the pavement brick.3.A set of molds for forming dry concrete with simple structure and convenient operations has been developed, which can be used to simulate properties of pavement bricks.4.The efflorescence mechanism was put forward. In addition, the efflorescence phenomenon was detected to easily occur in low temperature, while it was hard to find efflorescence on brichs when it is hot.5.The effects of compactness, chemical admixture of fly ash, silicate powder SHP-50 and different curing methods on the efflorescence phenomenon on pavement bricks were investigated by experiments. The results revealed that the efflorescence on pavement bricks was prevented lightly with the increase of the compaction as well as the increase of fly ash content and the curing time, while with the increase of SHP-50 content, the efflorescence was prevented efficiently.6.The scheme of increasing the content of SHP-50 or ZB-2538 A was proposed and simultaneously validated, which can completely solve the efflorescence problem on pavement bricks.
