With the increasing environment problems,energy-saving in architecture field is particularly urgent.Library buildings with complex functions and huge areas have a great energy-saving design potential.The natural lighting design of library is not only related to the overall energy consumption performance but also affects users' intuitive feelings.It's both ecological and educational.What's more,parametric design,as a new rational design platform,may provide architects a faster,more convenient and accurate design tool.This exploratory research based on the logic characteristics of parametric building design and grasshopper platform utilizes natural lighting simulation skills and optimization design method to provide a series of strategies for public library's natural lighting design process.This dissertation consists of three parts.Part 1 composed of chapter 1 gives a fairly complete overview of public library design theory,natural lighting design method theory and parametric design theory.Part 2 composed of chapter 2 analyzes 30 public library cases and summarizes the space features of public library,their natural lighting design strategies and their common parametric design methods.Part 3 is composed of chapter 3 and 4 and is the key part of this dissertation:(1)Part 3 proposes a design process for library's natural lighting design.(2)In order to solve natural lighting design issues logically,Part 3 proposes to classify various of natural lighting design issues into 3 different scales: macro-scale,middle-scale,micro-scale.(3)On each scale,part 3 utilizes one library case to analyze natural lighting design methods.(4)Part 3also utilizes and testifies design-evaluation-optimization logic and those natural lighting design methods in Milan public library design process.The research results in this dissertation are available and adoptable in Chinese library design filed and promote the development of Chinese library architectural industry.Parametric logic not only provides more possibilities for green building design,but also improves both design process efficiency and accuracy of design results.
