Lebbeus Woods(1940-2012),a paper architect with profound influence in the United States.Before his death in 2012,he created a large number of buildings in utopian situations and committed to the study of architecture in different real situations.His approach to explore the essence of architecture is not through architectural practice,but architectural painting,which is a way out of the bondage of real materials.Therefore,his works are mostly presented in a way that combines text and painting.The most prominent feature of Woods’s theory is its political nature,so,his every project are related to war,disaster and politics.(Abroad,)He is known as the "visionary architect",his projects have inspired the great potential of architectural space,so he is honored as the spiritual mentor of modern architects.This thesis aims to introduce and analyze the architectural thoughts and projects of Lebbeus Woods.It tries to transcend the boundary of architecture by means of architectural drawing,and to find out the significance of architecture in broader social changes.This thesis attempts to take Woods’ painting works as the medium,through studying his works and self-narration to explore the source of his design ideas,design philosophy and its influence on architecture.To seek the formation and connection of his architectural concepts and theoretical thoughts,and conduct a comprehensive analysis of the most representative works of architects.To explore his unique architectural language and design methods,summarizes his understanding of architecture,and finds out the value and inspiration of his architectural thoughts and production works for our architectural practice and research.
