The frequent occurrence of earthquakes has brought threats to people's survival and development.In recent years,many engineering projects have begun to install damping devices in the main structure to reduce the damage of the earthquake.Viscous dampers are widely used in practical engineering because of their certain viscosity,low compressibility,temperature resistance and large damping.This paper introduces the energy principle and classification of energy dissipation structure,discussed outlines the basic principle of viscous damping structure,briefly introduced the related theory of viscous damper,expounded theoretically the equivalent linearization of viscous damper,included a detailed derivation of the calculation method of the additional equivalent damping ratio based on the energy method for installing angled and non-angular viscous dampers.Then the three calculation methods of the absorbing structure are introduced.Finally,the flow chart is used to show the structural design process of energy dissipation structure by using the two softwares SAP2000 and YJK.And it also supplements the preliminary determination of the additional equivalent damping ratio,applies the principle of energy balance to determine the number of dampers,the arrangement of dampers and the review of damping ratios by iterative method.A relatively clear structural design method for energy dissipation structure is formed.In this paper,Fast Nonlinear Analysis(FNA)under frequently occurred earthquakes and nonlinear direct integration analysis under rarely occurred earthquakes are used to analyze two seismic structural cases with wall-type viscous dampers(without angle)and inverted V-type viscous dampers(with angle).The results show that the application of this method based on the energy method iterative calculation of the additional equivalent damping ratio can accurately determine the additional equivalent damping ratio,so that the engineering case can achieve the expected damping effect and meet the "three-level" fortification target requirements.Under the action,when the additional equivalent damping ratio is determined to be 5%,maximum horizontal displacement of each floor,maximum interlayer displacement angle of each floor,the base shear force,the top-level displacement time-history curve and the top-level relative speed time-history curve are all above 20%.Under the rare earthquake,both cases can guarantee the degree of structural damage at the medium damage level,so that it will not collapse under the rare earthquake and ensure the safety of the structure.Adding a viscous damper to the vertical irregular structure can uniformly tune the seismic response of each floor to avoid the occurrence of weak layers and weak layers,so that local damage does not occur.
