Lane-changing is one of the most common driving behaviors in road traffic environment, which has an important impact on road traffic safety. In the lane change process, the drivers should control both the horizontal and vertical movement of the vehicle, and take into account the current traffic situation of the lane and the target lane at the same time.Multi-task execution requests high driving skills and driving degree of dedication. This is also an important reason why lane-changing behavior causes frequent traffic accidents. The driver is the most important part of the man-vehicle-road-environment transportation system.A comprehensive understanding of the driving characteristics of the driver’s operation is the basis for automotive active safety study. At present, the lane changing safety technologies is mainly focused on the identification of the vehicle dangerous state and warning decision analysis, while the driving operation characteristics of the driver is rarely studied. Therefore, the study of the driver’s lane changing operation is of great significance. The present theoretical research related to lane changing behavior both at home and abroad is reviewed in the first part of this article, then,by applying the actual vehicle test data, the lane changing operating characteristics under different driving conditions related to different driving styles is analyzed, the specific contents are as follows:First, based on the highway vehicle test data, five indicators included average speed, times of over speed, standard deviation of lateral acceleration, maximum lateral acceleration, and maximum forward speed and steering wheel angle were extracted, then, the driving style evaluation method is set up by applying the Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation.30 drivers were divided into three categories under consideration of driving style.Analysis of the 30 subjects showed that a total of 14 drivers belong to the conservative,12 drivers belong to the moderate type, and the rest five drivers belong to the aggressive driver.Secondly, the lane change operating practices of different driving styles drivers is statistically analyzed, the indicators analyzed include lane change frequency, switching to lights, lane change headway distribution, lane changing vehicle speed distribution and acceleration lane change. The result shows that there are significant differences on the frequency change lanes,lane-changing speed and acceleration different driving styles drivers, various drivers have good sense of light using, but the use of signals lights is not standardized. Finally, the concept of lane changing behavior spectrum is described. The spectrum of driver’s behavior is a basic data system for comprehensively recording driver’s behavior and the spectrum of lane changing behavior is to comprehensively describe lane changing behavior. Then, indicators for describing lane changing behavior is proposed, the variation of parameters included lane change track, vehicle longitudinal acceleration, steering wheel angle and lateral acceleration in the lane change process is studied from both time domain and frequency domain, the lane changing behavioral characteristics of different driving style drivers under driving conditions were analyzed.A comprehensive understanding of lane changing operation characteristics of different driving styles drivers under different driving conditions can be realized by analyzing the speed of lane changing and the frequency of lane changing. The study of lane change behavior spectrum analysis can provide theoretical support for the design of lane changing warning system and lane change assist system.
