Timberwork building has a long history,especially in China.As we all know that the history of China’s wooden structure building as long as Chinese civilization.As time goes on,wood,because of its natural material defects,cannot meet the requirements of modern architecture,then gradually withdraw from the mainstream of modern architecture.But with the revolution of technology and the emergence of kinds of new engineering wood,more kinds of wooden structure are developed by modern architects and the major factor that limits the development of wood structure is no longer the sturcture itself.In addition,more and more countries have began to pay more attention to the green building that also leads to the widely used of timber structure in the contemporary world.The main contents of this paper are to analyze the structural mechanics logic of timber structure and how to express the timber’s characteristics in the space.According to the combination of rational and emotional research on the expression of modern timberwork’s structure in the space and the analysis of the characteristics of timber frame,we hope that more and more architects will be familiar with modern wooden architecture and take use of this structure which is environment-friendly and unique.First of all,the research background and research object are proposed,and then the domestic and foreign research status of wooden structure is analyzed.Finally,the research objectives and research methods,as well as the main content of each chapter are given.The second chapter is the theoretical part.Through the comprehensive analysis of the different time and region,the development history of the expression of the timberwork’s structure in the space is given.The third chapter is the structure mechanical space expression of modern wooden building.Different expressions are described according to different structural types.This chapter is to express the structural characteristics of wooden architecture through these expression methods that conform to the logic of structure mechanics.The fourth chapter is thenon-mechanical space expression of modern wooden building.The unique expression of wood as a natural material is summarized.The fifth chapter is the actual projects.The first one is two canopies,and the second is a villa’s reception center of Gongqing city of Jiangxi Province.The sixth chapter is the outlook and conclusion.Summed up the status of wooden building development,standing in the current perspective,the author objectively analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of timber architecture and looks forward to the fture of the timberwork.
