With the rapid development of social economy,people’s travel demand is increasing.The operation status of intersections reflects the operation efficiency of the whole road network.As the important distributing centers of urban roads,the signalized intersections are the main places for traffic jams.However,the design of right turn traffic not only affects the operation efficiency of the whole intersection,but also threatens the safety of pedestrians crossing the road.In the design of right turn traffic at the intersection,the larger the curb radius is,the faster the speed of right-turn vehicles through the intersection,but it will increase the risk of pedestrian crossing the road.Nonetheless,a too small curb radius will reduce the efficiency of right-turn vehicles and further affect the operation efficiency of the whole intersection.The research scope of this paper is the influence of the right turn radius on the right turn traffic design at the signalized intersections.The specific research contents are as follows: first,through analyzing the operation characteristics of right turn traffic at signalized intersections,the movement characteristics of crossing pedestrian and right-turn vehicles and the influence of the curb radius on the two are summarized.Second,SIMI Motion is used to analyze large amount of video data of four intersections in Xi’an.As a consequent,the moving status data of right-turn vehicles,including turning trajectories and speed,are extracted.Next,according to the analysis of extracted data,the motion laws of right-turn vehicles in different states are quantitatively studied,and the relationships between the right-turn radius and the right-turn speed of right-turn vehicles at the beginning and middle of the turn under different conditions are studied.Finally,the right-turn traffic design from the space and time and the right-turn traffic design mode of pedestrian and bicycle integration are analyzed.At the same time,on the basis of the relationships between right-turn radius and right-turn speed,the recommended value of the right-turn curb radius under this model is obtained. |
