To date,120 kilometers per hour is still a speed limitation of most highways in China. With the development of society,it is of great demands to break this speed limitation. To cope with this demand, new design should be provided for the structure and mechanical properties for the highway construction. In this study, numerical tests are carried out to find the factors those has essential effect on the settlement of highway. The influences of mechanical properties and thickness on the highway settlement are studied. The base layer thickness,Young's Modulus,Poisson's ratio,Friction angle and Cohesion are considered, results demonstrate that the most important parameters, which have significant effect on the settlement behavior, are pavement thickness and Young's Modulus.Through data analysis of numerical test results,a predictive model for calculating the settlement of highway is drawn. The results show that when the value of the modulus and thickness of pavement is very high, the value of the settlement is very low. Therefore,by controlling these two parameters,it is possible to design a highway with a settlement value at the surface which is considerably lower than the value of the tolerance which on commonly use in deterministic design.A new design for high-performance highway pavement is proposed in this study. |
