Comparison Of The Works Of Ieoh Ming Pei's Public Space Design

Ieoh Ming Pei,a famous architect,once said,"architecture is the combination of art and history." However,with the deepening of the concept of "global village",the cultural convergence in all over the world is becoming more and more intense.The cultural differences and regional characteristics between countries are fading away.Because of the lack of deep understanding of the regional and cultural characteristics of the nation and the cultural shock brought by the modern western design trend,the design forms of the museum category architecture are single,which separates the connection between the architecture itself,the local culture and lacks the unique cultural connotation and artistry of the nation.The sense of isolation and apathy shown by architecture is hard to get public approval.Therefore,how to make the museum architecture reflect the traditional regional culture of the nation and how to realize the sustainable development of the architectural design of the museum in China are in urgent need of our discussion and deep thinking.This paper makes a comparative analysis of the two Museum types of Ieoh Ming Pei,East Building of The National Gallery in Washington and Suzhou Museum.This paper makes a systematic and detailed analysis of the cultural background differences,the relationship between architecture and environment,building space processing,and the application of space details and materials,and the questions analyzed are such as follows: 1.How do Mr.Ieoh Ming Pei deal with the relationship between the environment and the architecture,how to seek the dialogue between the two,how to solve the challenges of the real environment,and how to achieve the inheritance of new buildings to the original environment? 2,how does Mr.Ieoh Ming Pei meet the basic functional needs and achieve the diversity and interest of the interior space when dealing with the interior space of buildings? 3,how did Mr.Ieoh Ming Pei design the details of architecture and how to choose appropriate decorative elements and building materials in architectural design? Finally,through the detailed analysis of the above three parts,we can find out how to make the unique ethnic regional history and culture better inherit and develop in the modernist architecture and hope to provide new design ideas and practical significance for the design and development of the public cultural architecture in the future of our country.
