Hot in-pace recycling(HIR)is an effective and rapid maintenance technique for distress treatment of asphalt pavement.Compared with traditional milling and repaving technique,HIR technique exhibits obvious advantages in resources saving,maintenance efficiency,as well as costs.Therefore,HIR is a promising technique for highway maintenance of China under current situations.From current application effects of HIR,the shortage of durability will cause early distress,which will impair the service performance and life for asphalt pavement.For this reason,further study of durability improvement for HIR is still necessary to ensure its pavement performance.When it comes to HIR mixture design,the lack of evaluation methodology of durability for HIR mixture will cause the unmeasurement of long-term performance of HIR mixture through indoor experiments.Besides,it is advocated to conduct refining construction in China.Consequently,for the sake of variability control,the current construction technology of HIR needs modification on the basis of practical project properties and the equipment adopted.Therefore,this research mainly focused on mixture design and construction control process to improve the durability of HIR.At first,the maintenance plan was designed based of practical engineering properties.Then the addition ratio of regeneration agent was determined according the characteristics of RAP obtained from milling.To verify the long-term performance of HIR mixture,indoor experiments was designed and carried out to simulate practical conditions and assess its durability.Moreover,through the construction of trial road of HIR,its construction technology was summarized and optimized to enhance the engineering quality.Finally,the social and economical benefits of HIR was assessed.The research results of this paper could serve as a recommendation for HIR mixture design and construction technology control,and thus to further promote the application of HIR method.
