High temperature superconducting DC cable with transmission capacity,low loss,small size,light weight,etc.,has broad application prospects in the field of high-capacity DC transmission.AC ripple loss is a high temperature superconducting DC cable an important parameter,a direct impact on operational stability and operating costs.Therefore,it is very important to carry out AC ripple loss study of high temperature superconducting DC cable,which can provide theoretical and experimental basis for the application of HTS DC cable.Based on the systematic introduction of the AC ripple loss of high temperature superconducting DC cable and the research status at home and abroad,the paper studies the AC ripple loss of HTS tape and the model cable from two aspects of experimental measurement and finite element simulation.First of all,the research status of high temperature superconducting DC cable at home and abroad is investigated.The composition of AC loss of high temperature superconductor and the theoretical calculation under different conditions are elaborated.Secondly,the advantages and disadvantages of various methods of AC loss measurement are compared.Based on the existing conditions in the laboratory,an AC loss measurement platform based on electrical measurement is set up.The AC loss measurement results of the superconducting tapes in the pure AC are compared with Norris’ Match,verify the reliability of the experimental measurement platform.Then,the critical current of high temperature superconducting tape and AC ripple loss under different DC operating current,different frequency and different ripple were measured.A high temperature superconducting DC model cable was wound and the critical current of the model cable and AC ripple loss at different DC operating currents,different frequencies and different ripples were measured.Finally,based on Maxwell’s equations and E-J index characteristics of high temperature superconductor,the finite element simulation of AC ripple loss in HTS tapes and cables was carried out.The simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental ones.The correctness and effectiveness of the simulation model in calculating the AC ripple loss of high temperature superconductor are verified.
