Superconducting fault current limiter (Superconducting Fault CurrentLimiter, SFCL) takes advantage of quench period of superconductingmaterial to cut down the fault current. Compared to traditionalcurrent-limiting device, resistive type SFCL has superior performance, therefore it attract much more attention on its wide use in the powersystem. However, the HST material will not be purely zero-resistancewhen it is exposed to complex electromagnetic environment. The losscaused by magnetic field called (Alternating Current) AC losses. BecauseAC loss from superconductors and contact resistance are the predominantcomponent of losses dissipated in the devices, they directly affect the costand stability of the application using HTS tapes. This dissertation presents AC loss and Critical Current (Ic)measurement and analysis of HTS tapes in a new resistive-type SFCLmade of the latest2G HTS tapes. According to internal structure andconnection method in SFCL module, two main losses, including AC loss ofsuperconducting tapes and the losses due to contact resistance inside theSFCL module are investigated. In order to know their characteristics andperformance in SFCL module, measurement systems based on “electricalmethod” composed of a high-performance amplifier and a wave recorderwith filtering function are set up to measure the AC loss at77Ktemperature. AC loss of HTS samples by double abreast and stackingcondition will be presented and analyzed. The measurements result ofthese conditions will also be compared with that of single straight tape.In addition, critical current Icmeasurement system will be also carriedout in chapter III, and the contact resistance in SFCL are calculated by analyzing their V-I curve by the Icmeasurement system. Finally, AC loss10kV resistive type SFCL will be calculated and discussed...
