PV system integration with power grid has many challenges. One of these, the disconnection of PV inverters from the grid under grid faults;these disconnections may lead to a stability problem in larger scale of PV power plant. This thesis firstly illustrates the two-stage PV inverter configuration and its conventional control method and then presents the implementation of DC braking chopper(BC)and avoided the MPPT operation during the LVRT operation(A-MPPT).Unlike the synchronous generators, the short-circuit current provided by the PV sources is limited by the grid-connected inverters and closely related to the normal conditions, which impacts the protection of the power systems. The second part of this thesis studies the possibility of using the double-end impedance based fault location on the PV farms transmission lines, and a fault ride-through strategy is suggested to reduce the effect of the inverter control loops on obtaining the accurate fault location. All the work was validated and verified by a 100 kW grid-connected PV system model using MATLAB/Simulink software. |
