With the rapidly consumption of the traditional energy, the whole world put their hopes on the development and utilization of clean energy. As a clean and inexhaustible energy, Solar energy has been paid much attention. Photovoltaic system as the main way of utilizing solar energy, related industries are developed rapidly. During the planning and construction of a grid-connected photovoltaic power station, rational location of the power station has a great significance. Irrational location will make the power output reduced and the maintenance costs increased directly. On the other hand, different to the traditional generation technology, the intermittence and uncertainty of photovoltaic power output, and the application of the power electronic device bring new features of power quality to grid. So, studying and analyzing the allocation and the power quality of photovoltaic generation system will play an important role.First of all, the history and the market dynamics of photovoltaic power in home and abroad is introduced. Now, the research of power quality of photovoltaic generation system is mostly focused on the principle and testing method of power quality issues, the inverter technology and the application of power quality control equipment.Secondly, An equivalent electrical circuit of the photovoltaic cell is built, a mathematical model of the PV array is derived, and the output characteristics are analyzed in the different illumination intensity and template working temperature conditions. By researching the control strategy of the grid-connected photovoltaic inverter, its advantages and disadvantages are compared.By analyzing the macroscopic factors, the microscopic factors and the impacts to distribution network, the selection of the photovoltaic power station’s location is studied well. Based on the above study, a conclusion is drawn:the most important thing of selecting the photovoltaic grid-connected power station’s location in Changshu is finding a proper access location in the grid.Both domestic and international grid-connected photovoltaic standards are introduced. The difference of the regulation of power quality in these standards are discussed. Based on this study, Changshu 9.8MWp grid-connected photovoltaic power station is chosen as the research object to make power quality testing, and this photovoltaic power station’s simulation model is built by using Matlab R2009b simulink. The result of research helps to take control of the operating characteristics and the power quality of the grid-connected photovoltaic power station. At last some power quality improvement measures are presented.
