Composite steel plate shear wall(C-SPW)consists of steel plate and reinforced concrete panel on one or both sides of the steel plate using headed studs, which is an effective lateral load resisting system used in high-rise buildings due to its significant shear bearing capacity, lateral stiffness and energy dissipation capacity.Reinforced concrete panel provides effective lateral restraint to prevent the prematurely buckling of steel plate. In the ductility design of C-SPW,steel plate should have certain plastic deformation and energy dissipation capacity after reaching its shear yield. The thickness of concrete panel should reach a certain value to make the elasto-plastic buckling of steel plate happen. In this paper,a novel finite element model of C-SPW with concrete encasement on one side of the steel plate is established using ABAQUS,and the inelastic analysis of C-SPW under pure shear loading is conducted. The interaction behaviors of infill steel plate, concrete panel and headed studs are revealed, and the effects of design parameters on the shear bearing capacity and behavior of C-SPW are researched by parameter analysis.Based on finite element analysis results, the elasto-plastic buckling of steel plate in C-SPW with concrete encasement on one side of the steel plate is addressed concerning the changes of steel plate thickness, concrete panel thickness, concrete strength, headed studs spacing and panel aspect ratio.A formula for concrete panel thickness demand in the design of C-SPW with concrete encasement on one side of the steel plate is proposed to make sure the C-SPW will not have buckled until its drift achieved 0.4%.
