Research On The College Of Science-The Early Architecture Of Wuhan University

After the Opium War,the development of Chinese architecture entered into the state of convergence and integration between China and the West.The western architecture system and Chinese traditional architecture system formed complex coexistence,collision and blending on our land.During the 1930s,The National Government attached great emphasis on "Chinese Intrinsic Forms" and trid to inherit the tradition of Chinese architectural art.Built under this background,the College of Science of Wuhan University cleverly applied the modern architecture theory and technology to the two kinds of architectural aesthetics,and with the perfect combination of mountains and water,exhibiting distinct feature of the age.Based on large quantity of historical documents and literature on early architecture of Wuhan University,this thesis focuses on the building group of the College of Science.The latest development of academic research are used to conduct detailed sorting and comprehensive analysis on the subject in the social and cultural background of modern China.The thesis is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.The second chapter explores the architectural history with comprehensive analysis and textual research on the historical context of the College of Science from aspects such as the overall situation of the early architecture of Wuhan University,the function evolution of the College of Science,the construction and protection of the College of Science.The third chapter analyzes the architectural form:the construction background,plan form,spatial arrangement,building elevation,detail and decoration,characteristic space.The forth chapter is the research on the construction,expounding on the preparation and process of the project,making detailed analysis on the building technique and feature building equipment.The fifth chapter is the comparison analysis of universality and individuality of the building and similar buildings,pointing out the inspiration of the College of Engineering on contemporary architectural design.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,including the general situation of the construction,the evaluation of its architectural art,the response to "voices of doubt",and the significance of this research to improve the protection system of The Science Building.As an important part of the early architecture of Wuhan University,the College of Science fully embodies the architect for the blend of different architectural ideas,new construction techniques and regional features,achieving the organic integration of function and form,architecture and environment.It provides good insight into problems such as inheritance of history,integration of East and West,collision of nationalization and internationalization in the development of modern cities.
